New Leadership

Next Phase for We Women Empowered

December 28, 2019

A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives. – Jackie Robinson

Dear Friends and Supporters:

As the newly appointed President of We Women Empowered, this quote from Jackie Robinson has served as a guiding principle for my mother and family, and it is still relevant today. Caring for the neediest will always improve the lives of all. So often, people forget about the tangible impact that giving of your time, talent, and treasure has not only on individuals, but on their communities.

When my mother started this organization, it was meant to show women we have the power to impact our community, and today I am driven to make this more of a reality.

I am honored that my mother and the Board of Directors have chosen me to succeed her as President of We Women Empowered.  It's an immense responsibility to follow in my mother's footsteps.  She has paved the way for so many, and I know I can build off the foundation that she established through her hard work.

There are so many needs in the southside and westside of Chicago.  More than ever before, our young people need us. When I step forward in leadership at We Women Empowered, I am committed to bringing change to our community by being intentional, intuitive, inclusive, and inspiring.

In the next six months, leadership at We Women Empowered will discuss how it aims to have an impact on young people within Chicago. So, stay tuned.

I also pledge that this organization will continue to function as a ground-up organization rather than a top-down one.  This means that we are with the community, and we understand the community. That is why it is so important for us to act as a cooperative organization that is a self-governing body of people organized on a voluntary basis to meet the common economic, social and cultural needs and expectations of our communities

In closing, I look forward to working with everyone in the Chicagoland area and beyond as we build a stronger and healthier Chicago.

Again, thank you for your support and for being an essential part of We Women Empowered Family.  I look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Warmest Regards,

Lisa Love

Positive Impact

Dominic Lewis

Over a decade ago, Dominic was on his way to becoming another Black male statistic in Chicago.  No degree, and heavily involved in street crime.  Through our support, Dominic turned his life around, received his GED, and is now the parking supervisor at University of Chicago Hospital.

Focus and Love Brings Success

Cameron Clark

Homeless and living on the streets.  We were able to assist Cameron in building a plan to graduate from high and succeed in life.  After graduating from high school, Cameron enter the military and received his degree from San Diego State University.  He is a proud father and contributing back to  the community.

Josephine "Mother" Wade

Chairman and Founder

A native of Forest City, Arkansas, first envisioned a life without poverty at the age of 15. Because she displayed great skill in cooking, meal preparation and party planning, Wade decided that becoming a successful entrepreneur would be the way to accomplish that dream.  She and her family moved to Chicago in 1958. After owning and operating several restaurants and food establishments, Wade invested her time and energies into bringing the downtown dining experience to Chicago’s South Side. In 1989, under her leadership, she opened Captain's Hard Time Dining restaurant and banquet hall. Wade believes in giving back. She founded We Women Empowered — an organization dedicated to mentoring children from low-income communities. In 2008 President George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States of America, presented Wade with the Distinguished Medal of Honor for Outstanding Service in the Community. Today, Wade continues to serve as a mentor to young people, especially those pursuing the dream of becoming entrepreneurs.
